High quality demands or specific designs of SMDs desire the application of solder paste before positioning and soldering the unit. Consequently lots of technical efforts are necessary to apply the new lead by the same amount as it was charged at the manufacturing of the board. This is done by a dispenser, which applies tiny amounts of the solder paste kept in a cartridge.
The application of SMD adhesive and other materials, which can be filled into cartridges is called dispensing, too.
